The Extruded L Shape is a 3D form created by linearly extending a 2D L profile along its z-axis, resulting in a solid with distinct right-angled arms. This structural form is characterized by its cross-sectional L shape, offering high moment of inertia and torsional rigidity, making it effective in resisting bending and twisting forces.

Common Use Cases:

  • Structural Engineering: Utilized in frameworks and supports where its geometry provides excellent load distribution capabilities.
  • Mechanical Components: Ideal for brackets and mounts, leveraging its two orthogonal planes for diverse attachment possibilities.
  • Modular Systems: Applied in modular furniture and storage units, exploiting its corner-fitting and space-efficient design.
  • Architectural Detailing: Employed in trimmings and moldings, where its profile contributes to both aesthetic and functional edge finishes.

Design Considerations: Design with the extruded L shape requires analysis of its cross-sectional area, length, material strength, and connection points to optimize structural performance and functionality. Its inherent mechanical properties are advantageous for applications requiring robustness in a compact form factor.

Processing steps (work in progress)
This is a first version of an idea I had. You can add different modifiers to the generated shape. Currently there is only the drilling machine that can drill a hole in the center (origin) of the shape and rotate.
